Azinian Mages' Guild

Any User of Magick above the rank of Novice is encouraged to join the Mages' Guild. The Mages' Guild provides knowledge, assistance, and guidance to inexperienced and adept mages alike. The Guild also provides a regulatory body for magical affairs. The heads of the Mages' Guild report directly to the office of the Arch Magus of Azin.

Every User of Magick in Azin and her Settlements pays dues to their local or regional Mages' Guildhouse. There are many benefits to paying dues to the Mages' Guild. One of the major benefits is access to the local copies of research materials in the Guild Library or supplies and assistance that are available at any Guildhouse store. Another benefit is that the Mages' Guild will provide an advocate if a mage is being tried for crimes.

The amount of the dues is based off of the character's social status within the magical community. The following table entitled "Monthly Dues to the Mages' Guild" provides the dues amount based on the character's status in the magical community:

Examples:
Megan ath Kallon is a User of Magick (Journeyman) working for her uncle's magick shop. She pays 5 P per month or 60 P per year. The Duchess of Kent is considered a Grand Magus and pays 60 P per month or 720 P per year. Rygel ath Azin is the Arch Magus of Azin and pays 240 P (1 Cr.) per month or 2880 P (12 Cr.) per year.

User of Magick (Novice)
A User of Magick (Novice) is a student passing their first entrance exams in one of the schools of magick or given by a master. If the User of Magick is self taught, they can take one of the magical exams at a magical school or university or from a willing master who is authorized to give the exam.

User of Magick (Apprentice)
A User of Magick (Apprentice) has at least one level in their magical ability. For additional information, please see Section One in "The Book of Additional Magick" By Mystic Station Designs, LLC

User of Magick (Journeyman)
A User of Magick (Journeyman) is a magick user that has completed their training but is not yet ready to open their own establishment or to teach others the arcane arts. For additional information, please see Section One in "The Book of Additional Magick" By Mystic Station Designs, LLC

User of Magick (Master)
A User of Magick (Master) is one that has obtained proficient skill and knowledge in the arcane arts to teach others and to own their own magical establishment. For additional information, please see Section One in "The Book of Additional Magick" By Mystic Station Designs, LLC

Mages' Guild Sergeant of Arms
The Mages' Guild Sergeant of Arms is a position of trust in the Mages' Guild of Azin. These Masters are responsible for collecting the monthly dues from members of the guild as well as keeping exact records of meetings and distributing the decisions of the Office of the Arch Magus.

Additionally, the Mages' Guild Sergeant of Arms holds the rank of Command Sergeant in the Azinian Military and is required to take up arms and magical arms when the military is called to action. At any given time, there can be up to 40 Mages' Guild Sergeants of Arms for a Guildhouse.

Mages' Guild Officer
The Mages' Guild Officer(s) are the middle management when it comes to magical affairs in Azin. They are the judges at magical competitions and they review the exam results of students for the country. They are also instrumental in organizing magical militia and commanding magical troops when the need arises. Mages' Guild Officer(s) hold the rank of Captain in the Azinian Military. There can be as many as six Mages' Guild Officers per Guildhouse.

Mages' Guild Master
The Mages' Guild Master runs the local Mages' Guildhouse and is responsible for overseeing the duties of the Mages' Guild Officer(s) and the Mages' Guild Sergeant of Arms. The Guild Master is the head administrator of the Mages' Guildhouse. He or she determines local magical disputes. They authorize what magical disputes are escalated to the Office of the Arch Magus and which disputes that will be heard and ruled on locally. The Mages' Guild Master has the additional responsibility of determining the financial course of the Mages' Guildhouse. Who, what, and where the funds taken in from the Guildhouse store and from the dues paid to the Guildhouse are used is the sole responsibility of the Mages' Guild Master. In times of conflict, the Mages' Guild Masters hold the rank of Knight Lieutenant in the Azinian Military. There is a council of the Guild Masters that meets to correlate policies and affairs between the various Guildhouses

Grand Magus
A Grand Magus is a powerful mage that has neither become an officer of the Mages' Guild nor has any desire at the Office of the Arch Magus. Grand Magi still must register with the Mages' Guild and pay their dues in order to maintain their status in the magical community. There are several mages that qualify for the rank of Grand Magus within the Azin Magical Community. They include:

Office of the Arch Magus
In TK 50, the crown of Azin established the Office of the Arch Magus after the crown had several issues with the Mages' Guild of Azin. The Office is completely independent of the Mages' Guild hierarchy although those who work within it must hold at least the rank of Master. It regulates all magical affairs within the country of Azin and regulates the authority and privileges granted to the Mages' Guild. The Office of the Arch Magus is funded in part by the dues that Users of Magick pay to the Mages' Guild and from a percentage of the revenue from the Mages' Guild retail shops and from the independent magical shops throughout Azin and her settlements.

Scribe to the Arch Magus
The Scribe to the Arch Magus is a well educated User of Magick that that keeps track of the sessions, agreements, contracts, laws, and decisions of the Vice Arch Magus and the Arch Magus. The Scribe is responsible for all of the clerical duties as well as all of the financial tracking that is required of the Office of the Arch Magus. As of TK 1050, there are 73 Scribes to the Arch Magus and the senior Scribe is petitioning for another 25 scribes by the end of the year.

Vice Arch Magus
The Vice Arch Magus is responsible for assisting the Arch Magus with his or her duties. These responsibilities can range quite a bit - depending on how much the Arch Magus desires to delegate. The Vice Arch Magus also sits as a judge on magical issues - mostly those of contracts and minor offenses. Additionally, if for any reason the Arch Magus of Azin cannot perform his or her duties the Vice Arch Magus will take their place and perform the required duties. The current Vice Arch Magus is Barbara Stewart ath Azin.

Arch Magus of Azin
The Arch Magus of Azin is the head of all of the users of magick and the magical schools and universities in Azin. The Arch Magus of Azin is also one of the Constables of Azin. The Arch Magus controls a great deal of political and economic power. The laws and restrictions placed on users of magick in Azin and her settlements come directly from the Arch Magus of Azin. The Arch Magus is also the royal court User of Magick for the Azin court. The current Arch Magus of Azin in Rygel ath Azin.

How much do Users of Magick Get Paid in Azin?

The salary of a mage depends on whether or not they are working for another, if they own their own shop, are in service to a noble, or are an independent researcher. The following table entitled Income for Users of Magick in Azin is a basic outline of what the wages are in Azin for Users of Magick. The only three values that are set in stone are the members of the Office of the Arch Magus.
