Lamp Nuts - Lamp Nuts (Magical Element, Fire and Earth rated MR 3) come from a tree that is known by many names, including the Torch Nut Tree and the Flame Nut Tree. It is one of the greatest sources for lamp oil on Alquennas.

When mature, this four foot tree produces anywhere from 30 pounds (in arid climates) up to 90 pounds (in temperate climates) of nuts per year. The nuts are very rich in taste and are quite nutritious. They provide 4 NU per pound. The abundance and hardiness of the plant has reduced the cost of lamp oil to 1 P per pint. Many believe the flavor is too rich to eat and grow them solely for the lamp oil.

It is possible to make 1 pint of lamp oil for every three pounds of nuts. The oil is pressed from the entire nut, including the soft shell. The oil is smokeless and burns very brightly. It is also wonderful as a carrier oil for balms, salves and unguents.

The plant does not have any special soil requirements as it does as well in sandy wasteland as it does in rich fertile soil. The Lamp Nut Tree is found on all of the continents except the Northern and Southern Shields. The nuts are quite cheap ranging from 1/2 to 1 penny per pound.

Languages of Alquennas - Many languages are spoken on Alquennas. They break down into four major groups. Those four groups are:

Human Languages – These are those spoken by distinct cultural portions of the Human race. Of these, the most commonly used is Kingdom.

Ancient Languages – These languages are no longer in current usage but are still prevalent due to records or ceremonial usage.

Racial Tongues – These languages are spoken natively amongst the non-Human races on Alquennas. It is possible for Humans to learn these tongues but they are very difficult and require tutoring from a member of the race to ensure that they are spoken properly.

Common Tongues – These languages have evolved over time to ease communication between the Peoples of Alquennas. Of these, the most common by far is Trade Tongue. All nations of Alquennas teach Trade Tongue to their children as well as their own language. A person may no longer be fluent in this simple speech, but they will at least be able to ask for help under the Three Great Laws.

The Larlack Bush - The Larlack Bush (Magical Element Fire MR 3) produces colorful flowers that dependant on the nutrient levels of the soil will determine the exact color of the buds and flowers.

If the nutrient levels of the soil are high, the flowers of the Larlack Bush will be Purple with yellow veins. This coloration of flowers is known as the Lesseneil’s Blossom (Lesseneil being the Trickster God) for, when turned into a tea, the purple and yellow leaves create a powerful hallucinating mixture. The mixture costs 10 P per dose.

If the nutrient levels of the soils are average, the flowers of the Larlack Bush will be Red with Dark Brown to Black veins. This coloration of flowers is known as the Widow's Choice blossom for turned into a tea the Read and Dark leaves create a powerful poison that does 4 body points upon ingestion and 2 body points of damage per round lasting 30 minutes. The victim will not feel any pain as the Widow's Choice begins to turn off the pain receptors as it begins to ravish the body. The mixture costs 40 P per dose.

If the nutrient levels of the soil are low, the flowers of the Larlack Bush will be Yellow with Green veins. This coloration of flowers is known as the Healer's Blossom. When turned into a Tea, the Yellow and Green leaves create an antidote for the Widow's Choice and Waters of Treachery. The mixture costs 80 P per dose

The Larlack Bush is used by farmers throughout the world to judge the quality of their soil. Because of this, the Larlack Bush has become so abundant throughout the world that one can purchase an adolescent plant for 15 P.

The Lead Rose - The Lead Rose (magical Materials Earth MR 5) are sought after for one major reason. Their MR is a great deal lower than Lead found elsewhere naturally. Many mages will ignore the dangers of the wasteland to find Lead Rose plants. Most mages fail to return from the Wasteland.

Each petal of a Lead Rose is 1 oz. For every petal, that one wears their MR increases by +1%. If a Lead Rose petal is placed in a container, even a leather pouch, with food the rate of decay is reduced by 10% a maximum effect of 50% reduction in spoilages can be obtained.
